Neige et trucs.

Snow has come to our lovely little village, and just in time since we'll be going back to the US again for the holidays very soon. (And just when I've gotten over this round of jet lag, sheesh!) But with only a short stint left at our place here in 2012 I'm so happy that it chose to snow now, as we always seem to be away for it.

And with the Thoiry Xmas Marche on Sunday, the snow was the perfect backdrop for not only picking up a few crafty little things at this annual market, but also for doing our Sunday market food shopping...

Cheese season is officially upon us, and with our very first Tartiflette night of the season coming up on Friday (wear your stretchy pants friends), we thought, hey, why not stock up on some fondue cheese as well...because really, if I've learned one thing from almost three years of living in France, it's that you just can't have enough cheese in your fridge...

And when it comes from your region, you most certainly have to buy some...

Once we had stocked up on cheese, cidre, olives and veg for a few days, we headed into the Christmas market, and immediately went for warm soup and refreshments...

 

You know, to keep hydrated and such...

We picked up this little ski pinecone dude, as well as an ornament, some honey from the Thoiry honey guy, and a liquor from him as well that is an apertif and, you guessed it, made from honey. The proceeds from the little guy above and the ornament went to benefit the school in Thoiry - yeah for giving!

And so marked my first trip back to the market where I did not feel like a cranky jetlagged zombie...and man, does it feel good to be back.

I think from the looks of this face, Doc is also very happy that I am no longer feeling like a cranky jetlagged zombie...

Why hello there!

I'm back, after 9 weeks in LA at Bikram Yoga Teacher Training!

Lots to catch up on after a total of 3 months in the US, but for now I just wanted to say hi and that I'll be back to regular posting on the blog this week!

God Bless 'Merica Moment of the Day: Bulk

Yes, I was the "foreigner" in the Sam's Club taking pictures because I was amazed by the obese sized shopping carts, lines, and bulk containers of toilet paper, halloween candy (I was tempted), and slim fast bars (Soap box moment alert: Just eat real food people! End Soap Box moment). Shopping for Bikram Yoga Teacher Training is feeling a lot like leaving for Penn State 12 *cough* years ago, with things like a Brita Water Pitcher and a laundry hanging rack on my shopping list. Things not on my shopping list when I was 18? Electrolyte supplements, chia seeds, coconut water, cranberry caffeine free tea bags...

 

I think I'm getting old.

It's hot as balls today in South Jersey, as its been since I got here 2 weeks ago. Perfect Bikram weather, gross walking weather. Keep your furry babies hydrated today folks.

4 months.

When I was home for my birthday back in April, I convinced my parents to let me plant two of our potted fig trees in the yard. As you all know I'm a little obsessed with fig tree propagation, but I had never planted a fig tree in the ground before.

 

The fig trees were bought the spring before from The Fair Foodstand at Reading Terminal Market in Philly. They were propagated by a guy in Germantown (a neighborhood in Philly), so they are locally grown. They were also a decent price at $15 a pop, which is a nice alternative if you're not interested in propagating your own. I believe they are available at the Fair Food Stand every May, and if you get there early you can buy different varieties. I bought a brown turkey and a Negronne variety.

I planted these two guys on May 2nd, and now on September 2nd look how big they have gotten!

No figs this year, but they've got little fig embryos alluding to a fig crop for next year. Just hoping they're strong enough to handle the upcoming hurricane season...

Happy Labor Day weekend friends! I'm back aux etas unis until Thanksgiving, and even though I'm missing the hell outta Doc, SwitzerFrance, my fig trees and all our cheese, I'm very excited for the opportunity I've got coming up in the next few weeks. Remember that post long ago where I was completely ambiguous about great things happening? Well, those things are right now. I leave for Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 2 weeks, and will therefore be living in Los Angeles for 9 weeks. I've never been to California before, and even though we'll be busy 99% of the time and exhausted, I'm hoping to get to see a little bit of LA. Any suggestions for the 1% free time that I'll have?
